Mandy Kennedy's April Service Hours

April's Service Hours:13 hours Cumulative: 24 hours  Spending several days volunteering at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church was an immersive experience that left a lasting impact on me. Spread across multiple days, each moment spent in service added a layer of fulfillment and connection to the community that I won't soon forget. Each day began with a sense of anticipation, knowing I would contribute to Mater Dolorosa's mission of compassion and support. When I stepped into the office, the familiar faces of the staff greeted me with open arms and briefed me on the day's tasks. Over several days, I engaged in a variety of activities, from administrative duties to helping the office in whatever they needed. Organizing files, answering phone calls, and offering a listening ear to those seeking guidance all played crucial roles in supporting Mater Dolorosa's operations and extending help to those who needed it most. As the days progressed, I found myself immersed in the rh

February Service Hours

February service hours: 7 hours Cumulative hours: 9 hours  This month was very gratifying when it came to completing my service hours. I got to help in the office of Mater Dolorosa, helping file all back tax files. It was very helpful to color code and organize the files because it made it much easier to find and access specific documents. By assigning different colors to different categories or types of files, I could quickly identify and retrieve the information I needed without wasting time searching through a jumbled mess. Additionally, organizing the files in a logical order, such as alphabetically or chronologically, further enhanced the efficiency of the system. This method not only improved my productivity but also reduced the likelihood of misplacing or losing important documents. Overall, the color coding and organization of files greatly streamlined my workflow and contributed to a more efficient and effective working environment. I organized by color, date, and filed them

December Blog Post

December Hours: 4 November hours: 8 In December, I completed 4 hours of community service. Community service helped me apply classroom learning to real-world situations. Due to this experience, I could gain a better understanding of academic subjects as a result. Since I was able to do this, it motivated me to engage with them on a deeper level. I worked at the City Park Amusement Area for Celebration in the Oaks, greeting patrons and taking pictures of their families at the entrance. I enjoyed interacting with customers. I got to know where they were from. It was a freezing night, but I was able to offer a warm gesture. I had so much fun interacting with them and getting to know them. I also enjoyed the visual aspects of the event, such as the lights, decorations, and rides. It was a fun experience that I will never forget. I told them about my situation, and how Tulane has been instrumental in presenting my life in a positive light.  Furthermore, I also lent a hand to my chu

In November, I allocated 8 hours for habitat for humanity and assisted my family in donating for Goodwill. I also built furniture for the Restore. I will continue to do community service more hours at city park for the fall season.  As a result of these service hours, I have demonstrated my passion, commitment, and sense of civic responsibility. As a volunteer, I help give back to the community and gain a greater understanding of the meaning and importance of life. It is essential for graduate students to participate in community service, as these hours can benefit both the institution and the students. It is through these hours that students can make a positive contribution to their communities as well as develop leadership skills, expand their professional network, and grow as individuals. The goal of graduate school is not only to study and conduct research but also to become a part of a community. As a result of participating in service activities, I have the opportunity to co

As a member/student of the Tulane Community, I've come to realize the value and the importance of volunteering by giving your time. Through volunteering it helps me grow as an individual who has acquired a purpose and to sustain a lifelong intrinsic and positive social impact. Volunteering allows you to gather knowledge, skills, and opportunities, you wouldn't have otherwise experienced. I know many times in my life, I have needed help, and I have been so grateful for anyone who gave me their time to help me succeed and that is why giving back is so instrumental in growing as a person. Additionally, it gives me a window of opportunity to acquire knowledge and life skills to grow as a student and introspectively as a human. It is advantageous in so many ways, to become an active member of the community, even if it changes one person's life, it is worth it.  Moreover, the social benefits allow me to make new friends and network. As a student with ADHD, I sometimes find new s
